I used to keep a regular eye on what was going on in the universities, because an enormous number of families send their children to these places and deserve to know what's happening.
So many other urgent topics needed to be covered over the past three years that I didn't pay as much attention to higher education. But I've been looking back into it over the past week.
Dear reader, things have not improved.
I recently read this: "The University of Rhode Island is offering students and faculty up to $1,000 for hosting 'social justice' related speakers and campus events."
What would be the need for this, exactly, given that the entire faculty is already of a "social justice" bent, and that perspective is all the students hear on a day-to-day basis as it is?
If we were dealing with decent, normal people, you'd think they would to the contrary want to make a special effort to host events, possibly even debates, in which (for a change) students would be exposed to different viewpoints.
(All right, stop laughing.)
Then this headline:
"UConn to require students to pass 'Anti-Black Racism' course in order to graduate"
Every last proposition advanced in this course will be false and based in propaganda, and people who deny that "discrimination" is the source of poverty will be excluded from the curriculum, even though they have clearly the better of the argument.
The university's Office for Diversity and Inclusion said that a course like this would be "an important starting point for addressing barriers to success on our campus and in our society, especially given the spate of anti-Black racism that was made apparent by the murder of George Floyd in 2020 and that persists in current efforts to ban Critical Race Theory."
Critical Race Theory is based on the idea that the United States is a "white supremacist society" (a laughable, obviously false claim), and that statistical disparities are caused by "racism" (a proposition nobody can seriously defend after the work of Thomas Sowell).
Then, for a third example, I might mention the incident at the University of Pittsburgh last month in which a debate on transgenderism was cut short by a riot made up of about 250 protestors carrying incendiary devices.
One of the debaters said, "The hotel was only a tenth of a mile away from where the event was happening, but I had to be escorted by armed security through the mob that was being held back. I'm all about peaceful protests and disagreement, and there were some people there for that, I'm sure, but that’s not what a lot of this was. These people wanted to stop this event."
If you and I did something like that, dear reader, the country would never hear the end of it, and it would be further evidence of the terrible danger of "white supremacy" in America.
But when people who hold the Officially Approved Opinions about everything do it, most Americans never even hear about it.
It's almost as if there's a double standard!
With college degrees more expensive and less useful than ever, perhaps something may yet happen.
In the meantime, for those of you who suffered from educational malpractice, I went over the heads of all of these crazy people.

No matter how bad you think Covid policies were, they were intended to be worse.
Consider the vaccine passports alone. Six cities were locked down to include only the vaccinated in public indoor places. They were New York City, Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, Washington, D.C., and Seattle. The plan was to enforce this with a vaccine passport. It broke. Once the news leaked that the shot didn’t stop infection or transmission, the planners lost public support and the scheme collapsed.
It was undoubtedly planned to be permanent and nationwide if not worldwide. Instead, the scheme had to be dialed back.
Features of the CDC’s edicts did incredible damage. It imposed the rent moratorium. It decreed the ridiculous “six feet of distance” and mask mandates. It forced Plexiglas as the interface for commercial transactions. It implied that mail-in balloting must be the norm, which probably flipped the election.
