The secrets of the pomegranate or the “FORBIDDEN FRUIT“ were considered "so sacred that it’s mystery could never be revealed."
Well, as always, we are going to desecrate and tear asunder the sacred shroud or Veil that prevents everyone from knowing the secrets of Life and the universe that is always perpetually disguised in esoterica as being “too profound for you to handle.”
"The name pomegranate derives from medieval Latin pomum "apple" and granatum "seeded".
c. 1300, poumgarnet (a metathesized form), from Old French pome grenate (Modern French grenade) and directly from Medieval Latin pomum granatum, literally "apple with many seeds," from pome "apple; fruit" (see Pomona) + grenate "having grains," from Latin granata, fem. of granatus, from granum "grain" (from PIE root *gre-no- "grain" ).
The classical Latin name was malum granatum "seeded apple." Italian form is granata, Spanish is granada.
Possibly stemming from the old French word for the fruit, pomme-grenade, the pomegranate was known in early English as "apple of Grenada"—a term which today survives only in heraldic blazons.
This is a folk etymology, confusing the Latin granatus with the name of the Spanish city of Granada, which derives from Arabic.
Garnet derives from Old French grenat by metathesis, from Medieval Latin granatum as used in a different meaning "of a dark red color". This derivation may have originated from pomum granatum, describing the color of pomegranate pulp, or from granum, referring to "red dye, cochineal".
The French term for pomegranate, grenade, has given its name to the military grenade.
Of course the GRENADE is something which fits in the POM of your hand (silly play on words, yes), the HAND GRENADE.
The hand grenade even derives it's many seeds of shrapnel from the seeds or grains of the pomegranate.
The hand grenade doesn't just blow things up with explosion, the deadliest component, is the SHRAPNEL or the seeds contained within it, which become deadly projectiles under the force of the explosive gunpowder.
